It is Not Food But it is FUN!!!!!

My kids wanted some playdough.  Pink playdough.  We have none. I suggested we make some, and of course they thought that was a wonderful idea.  I used to make it all the time and have tried out many recipes.  I found this one to be the best.   I usually add some kind of essential oil such as lavender or peppermint.

Here is the recipe...

• 1 cup flour
• 2 Tbsp cream of tartar
• ½ cup salt
• 1 to 2 Tbsp cooking oil
• 1 cup water
• food coloring

Mix flour, cream of tartar, and salt in a pan. Mix desired coloring with water, add with oil to dry mixture. Cook over medium heat until thick.  Let it cool down a bit then knead it on a floured surface.

I usually put all the ingredients and necessary tool on the table before we begin.  It is faster to pre-measure and out into ramekins but I let them do the measuring.  Cooking in a great way to learn math.  I did add the food dye to the water though.

The kids gather around the table, and start to fight discuss who is going to what.  Once it is decided we can begin.  I am down one because Midge is not feeling well and was sleeping.

Pumpkee measures out the flour.

She poured it into the pot and it was Cookie's turn...she spilled salt over the floor.

A quick clean up and we are back at it.

I was brave enough to let her pour the coloured water.

My eldest naturally got the stove part of the job.

She also got to knead it.

Time to play.
